Where Have I Been?

It's been a while since I've posted something here. My last post was in June and then, I kind of disappeared. The second half of this year has been exciting and busy. The reason I've been dormant is because I've had a change in priority during this time. I started this blog to try and get myself into a writing habit. My original goal was to post something once a month which would help build my writing skills. I haven't really hit this goal since I started but I was pretty consisent for a little while. That's the funny thing about goals though, if you don't pay close enough attention to them you might miss the point. I gave myself a goal of writing once a month which I clearly did not hit. The real point of the goal wasn't just to post once a month, it was to start a habit and improve my writing. This I feel I've accomplished. The main reasons I've been so dormant is because I've begun a more intense writing habit.

I've always been interested in writing fiction but never really knew where to began. I thought the first place to start was to build a writing habit. That's just what I did, I began to write daily prompts starting in late March and for the most part have written one a day since then. I started out writing for 5 minutes a day and am now up to 20-30 minutes a day. On some days, I get lost in the story and end up doing them for an hour. The point in the beginning was to get me writing, now I'm using them to help improve my writing. This got me moving to a bigger writing project I've been thinking about since I was a kid, writing a comic book. So I've been spending my writing time learning how to write good fiction, writing daily prompts and working on my story. It's been an adventure, which I hope to talk more about in 2017.

These past six months haven't just been about writing either, I started a new job in July that I'm loving. It's brought back a lot of my enthusiasm for programming and I'm working on something I really believe in. It's a nice feeling to have again. It's been a long time since I've worked on a product I really believed in. This past year has been full of ups and downs, as they always are. I came into 2016 wanting to figure things out, figure out what I wanted to do with myself and my family in the coming years. I feel I've accomplished this. 2016 was all about figuring it out, 2017 is about finding the discipline to move forward everyday. I've been taking small steps daily, just getting 1% better. I hope to post a little more often in 2017, I hope to have a bit more of a schedule and a little more variety. I want to write more about my writing practice, continue publishing helpful technical articles and get far enough with my comic that I can talk about it here. I look forward to being more active this year and I wish all my faithful readers a happy and wonderful 2017!!
