Over the past few years I've been trying to cut down on what I own and only purchase things I need. I value quality over quantity and try to purchase products that will last a long time.
Footwear
I've developed foot problems over the years from all of the walking and sports I've played. Because of this, and the bone structure of my feet, I've been using running shoes as my every day shoe. This has worked wonders on my feet and taken away a lot of the pain. I've also purchased a custom insole, which in combination with these sneakers has allowed me to walk with no pain.
Electronics
I've been using an iPhone since the iPhone 4 and haven't looked back. I find iOS really easy to use, smooth and the battery works well. I usually get two days out of it which is pretty good. It's a little expensive and you are tied to a carrier but I haven't had any big problems. I've been trying to cut down on my cell phone usage lately and only keep apps on my phone that I really need. I don't see a reason to upgrade in the future.
This is by far the best laptop I've ever had. I'm running Ubuntu Desktop edition and the hardware works great. It's extremely light and easy to carry around. Portability and compatibility with Ubuntu are the most important things for me when it comes to a laptop. I'm always carrying it around and it needs to be easy to hold in my bag during my commute and when I travel. This laptop is perfect for it. This is my most important piece of hardware since I spend most of my days doing dev work.
I didn't think much about this until I got it as a Christmas gift a few years ago and now it never leaves my bag (except when I'm charging it). I'm not great at chargning my devices and the battery lives on mobile devices in general are pretty poor. This battery bank has saved me many times when my Nexus or iPhone was about to die. It also comes in handy when you are at conferences or all day events.
This seems strange to make a note of but I can't live without it. I love my laptop but HATE track pads. I find them clunky and extremely uncomfortably. I spend most of my time on a laptop and having a comfy mouse that works well is a must. Bonus points for the buttons on the side that allow me to move forward and backwards on the browser.
Workout
I'm a workout fanatic, it's what keeps me sane and feeling good. I go to the gym 5 to 6 days a week and mix up my workouts between the gym and home. I have a small set of dumbells in my house and am slowly building them up. I love having them at the house in case I miss a workout or if they are needed for my at home workout. Dumbells can be a little expensive but I think they are really worth it.
ProSource Cotton Weight lighting Straps
I don't like wearing gloves when I lift but can't live without my straps. There are a bunch of exercises that are a constant part of my weekly routine (mainly dumbell and barbell shrugs as well as deadlifts) where my hands will give out before the muscle I'm working on. These straps are a huge help in those situations, they allow me to push myself the way I need without risking injury. They do a great job removing the pressure from my hands in may situations.
Writing
My writing process is pretty structured. I spend a lot of my time writing in Google Docs but I do a lot of note taking and brain storming in my Moleskin Notebook. When I come up with ideas or need to do some exploring I grab this book and get lost in it. I keep it next to me at all times so I can quickly jot down notes or if I'm doing heavy brainstorming I can write away. I keep the books labeled with a silver sharpie so I know what each book is for. I love these notebooks and can't live with out it.
