what I'm doing now
it's the end of the baseball season, but we are in the middle of fall, my favorite time of year.
Programming
I spend the majority of my time in Python, Django, and Postgres - a stack I love and don't see changing anytime soon. Lately, I have been spending more time with Polars building baseball analytics and forecasting models which has been a lot of fun.
I've also started learning Go as part of my baseball project. It's pushing me to think in new ways, something I think we all should do more often. I'll share more about what I'm building as I make progress and get more familiar with Go.
Baseball And Data Analytics
Outside my business and family, this is where I spend the majority of my time and I love it. I've come to love Polars, and have built some pretty powerful and robust data pipelines to manage a centuries worth of baseball data.
My models are a work in progress but have come a long way in the last year. I'm looking forward to sharing more about them as they mature.
Media Consumption
The age of distraction is real and I don't want to be a part of it anymore. I've started a detox from social media and YouTube (also cutting back on podcasts), and it has been incredibly hard. I give myself a single 30-minute window during the day to check social media, and I avoid it entirely in the evenings. It's been about four weeks and my focus is starting to return. I feel more productive than I have in years.
With a clearer and calmer mind, I've been able to put focus on reading more books, and making deliberate decisions. The pull toward social media is still there, but it's getting easier every day. I don't miss it and feel better every day.
